The voters didn’t just speak in Tuesday’s Republican Primary for Yonkers Mayor: they roared.

John Murtagh, the independent Councilman who from Day One as an elected official made it clear that he wanted to shake up City Hall, won a dramatic victory over Richard Martinelli and Carlo Calvi.

With 71% of precincts reporting, Murtagh had 45% of the vote, with Martinelli getting 32%, and Calvi 24%.

“I am humbled by the support of so many Republican neighbors across Yonkers,” said Murtagh to a large crowd of supporters at 11:00 pm, “and I vow to work as hard as I can to bring real reform and openness to city govenrment.”
